Why Go For iControl IPTV

Being a new technology, IPTV is growing slowly in India. People are using it and are admiring its features too. My observations since the time I am here in the industry brought conclusion that, people do get confused between IPTV and DTH. For a common man both are the TV services. While technically speaking, DTH & IPTV are two different sides of a coin. DTH (Direct to the Home), uses a dish antenna, connected with a Set Top Box (STB) and then the STB is connected with your TV set. IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) uses no dish antennas and thus there are no issues of dish placement, disturbance during bad weather etc. IPTV is a technology where your data packets pass through a secure channel and reach your TV set via your broadband line.

Watching only TV channels on your TV is no more the trend. The advance technology provides you games on TV and various applications like learning English. IPTV comes with something more, not only the applications, games but the features of IPTV are so fascinating that you will be completely entertained. The iControl site has all these features mentioned with details. You can Play-Pause-Rewind LIVE TV. You get all your shows of up to last 7 days available on Chill ( The iControl IPTV feature). So unlike DTH you don't have to press your remote button in order to record your favorite show. Not only this IPTV has all these shows on its own server, so you get no STB memory space full issues. DTH says it provides a recording of only 90 hours (approx), but if you count the IPTV Chill recording hours, they will be more than 10,000 hours. Watching the shows on Chill is completely secure, easy to watch and fast. You never get problems of loosing the saved shows. Talking about DTH if the memory is full, you cannot record a show until and unless the previous recorded show is deleted.Talking about the cost, IPTV is really affordable for common people of India. The difference between DTH's cost and iControl IPTV is a lot.

With two major problems; disturbance due to bad weather and recording limitations DTH looses the race with IPTV. And when IPTV is coming with some new generation services after the launch of FTTH (Fibre to the Home) people will surely be understanding what IPTV has.

IPTV

A term the whole India will be hearing a lot from now is IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). As the name sounds, its a television content delivered through internet connection. The concept of IPTV is coming since a long time, but in 2010, India too will have same experience that most foreign countries have.

With IPTV you are no more constrained by the TV. You get hundreds of channels, video on demand, time-shift, triple play and all this controllable with your Remote Control. Not only this you can communicate using IPTV as it provided the messaging feature just like SMS in your mobile phones. IPTV basically receives and display encoded video stream through Internet lines laid down for broadband purposes, thereby offering a new concept of affordable televiewing. These internet line are connected to your TV through a set-top box. This makes IPTV, a technology more advanced and better than DTH technology. With DTH customer has to install a Dish antenna and still face problems of distorted videos due to bad weather. Whereas for IPTV only and most important is broadband connection, no antenna is needed in order to get signals.

IPTV is a TV just like restaurants, you sit and order and get what you want.

IPTV Technology

We have noticed that people still are not aware about what exactly IPTV is? Moreover they confuse IPTV technology with the Internet TV. Being first and oldest provider of IPTV in India we feel the responsibility of educating people about IPTV. So we have written a blog to educate people about the technicalities of IPTV.

IPTV is basically the system which is used to deliver digital quality service to the registered subscribers in a closed network. The delivery of digital Television here is made possible using Internet Protocol (IP) over broadband. This service can be provided along with services like Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Internet Access, In case all these services are provided to the subscribers it is known as Triple Play service.

Let us understand the architecture of IPTV with the help of the above figure. This figure can be divided into four components corresponding to the four steps involved in the transmission of video signals from broadcasters end to the homes in IPTV scenario.

Dish which is installed at the IPTV service provider's headend, receives the video content from the broadcasters and other sources like ZEE, STAR, SONY etc. Known as Content Sources.

Video Encoders, Video-on-Demand server, Billing system which can be known as IPTV Network Operation Centre (NOC) when taken together as a component.

The content sources receives the content in different formats video encoders present in NOC encodes it into IP streams. The main source of Interactivity, video-on-demand server is there in NOC centre, the encoded IP Streams and VOD content is then sent to the customer premise using distribution network.

The third component; Distribution Network consist of MPLS core, T1 T2 layers, DSLAM network. These components together help in the timely distribution of IPTV streams to the customer end.

ADSL Modem, Set Top Box and TV are present in the Customer premises. Modem receives the IPTV streams from distribution network sends it to Set Top Box and this Set Top Box again decodes the data according to the TV requirement. This way you watch your TV through IPTV technique.
